WHAT IS HOLISTIC INTERIOR DESIGN AND HOW IT CAN CONTRIBUTE TO OUR HEALTH?

Interior Design is the art of creating, designing or enhancing the interior space of a building to achieve a beautiful, functional, pleasant and aesthetic environment that not only adapts to the lifestyle but also improves the life quality of the people using the space by following and implementing certain principles of design.

While traditional interior design aims to create an aesthetically pleasing and functional interiors, holistic interior design achieves and follows the same principles but it also implements different multidisciplinary holistic factors and philosophies such as colour philosophy, feng Shui, nature and energy to create spaces that feel harmonious, energetically balanced and that connect with the individual’s needs and emotions, recognising the importance of our overall health – physical, mental and spiritual, it’s about finding the right balance between the mind, body, soul and environment.

The relationship between holistic interior design and wellbeing

Many of the studies throughout the years show a relationship between design and wellbeing, and how a design can impact negatively or positively to human well-being.

The places and spaces that we inhabit on a day-to-day basis, provoke powerful emotional responses that influence our health and well-being, so the energy in a physical environment and an individual should be well integrated and in harmony to create a balance and produce a restorative effect in the individual.

Especially when it comes to our homes and our work spaces, there is nothing better that coming home after a busy day at work to a warming, pleasant and comfortable space where you feel safe and nourished. The same happens with our work space, a good design can enhance not only our mood but also our productivity and creativity, as well as creating a whole new restorative experience for your clients.

Experience it yourself, next time you enter a space, take the time to observe your surroundings, try to listen to your body and mind, notice your emotions, your thoughts and how your body responds to it, whether it makes you feel relaxed, energetic and wanting to stay there a bit longer, or if it makes you feel heavy, sad and you feel the urge to get out of it.

Holistic Interior Design is simply translating what your client needs to express on a soul level to feel at peace in their home.
